We are living in exponential times

I juz saw a video that kinda scared me after I think about it. How much the world has evolved and the speed at which it is evolving is astounding. How people are so reliant on these technologies juz to function properly in their daily lives. I've written this for my exams and assignments many times, technology has become an inseparable aspect in people's lives. It is so true. 10 years ago in Singapore, it is common that people do not own handphones. Now, it is practically a joke if you don't have a handphone. My "son" told me the other day over mahjong that he is thinking of cutting off his internet access so he will get his ass out the door to live his life. I can NEVER do it. Although I do not depend on technology as greatly as many people I know, I've gotta admit I don't think I can survive one day without my beloved computer.

It is still difficult for me to wrap my head around the issue of how and why scientists still cannot find a cure for cancer, HIV, and so many other diseases when technology is advancing at such rapid speeds.

Juz a few quotes from the video:

"The top 10 in-demand jobs in 2010 did not even exist in 2004. This means we are currently preparing students for jobs that don't yet exist, using technologies that haven't been invented in order to solve problems we don't even know are problems yet."

"There are 31 billion searches on Google every month. In 2006, this number was 2.7 Billion. To whom were these searches addressed B.G.? (Before Google)"

"The first commercial text message was sent in December of 1992. Today, the number of text messages sent and received everyday exceeds the total population of the planet."

Can you imagine the amount of help that can be extended to people who need them and the difference that can be made in the world if juz one cent for every text message sent will be donated to charity and research funds?

We are living in the information age where everything is stored in virtual memory. With the exception of the buildings, cars and hardware, we will leave nothing behind for future humans to explore our generation when our world comes to an end. People don't write diaries or journals anymore, we blog, we update our facebook status and most recently, we twitter. And when the world ends, the virtual memory will die with us.

At the end of the video begs the question "So what does it all mean?"

Something to think about yes?

Mood=Happy

I'm supposed to sleep. keke. But I'm juz kinda too happy coz I finished my marketing assignment earlier tonight. Literally darling helped me and together we finished 3/4 of it in like 6hrs? How efficient is tt? I was super worried about it but too sick to think plus all the drugs the doctor had me on was making me drowsy the whole day through. So after the assignment was done we juz had to jump out of the house and go out for some nice teochew porridge supper at hougang. Best meal I've had in a long long time. What can I say.. I'm easily satisfied. Teochew porridge is like my comfort food. It brings me back to when I was a little girl and my dad would bring the whole family out to eat Teochew Porridge dinner. He and I would eat "La La" and my mum would go *yucks*. LOL. Those were simpler, happier times. Wish I could juz be a kid forever.. now we all know tt's never gonna happen. Everyone has to grow up.. although being an adult really sucks!

Oh well, I've got a few things lined up for the next few days. Meeting up with CIM classmates for assignment submission and probably a dinner afterwards. It's gonna be nice knowing there's no commitment after tt dinner. No assignments... nadah. Juz dinner with some good ol' chit chat. And wednesday I'm meeting my dearest Shilin.. miss tt girl lots. Especially her laughter.. No matter what kind of stupid customers piss me off she juz needs to laugh and I'd feel better. lol. Actually I miss the whole CRM bunch of ex-colleagues. They're fun and one of the nicest lot of pple I've met in a long time. And after tt I'm gonna do my nails, maybe get my hair some well deserved treatment, go for a massage tt's long overdue. Stuff like tt... pamper myself! It's been a long time. lol.

Gotta say thank you to my dearest Alvin. Couldn't have finished this assignment without you. We're gonna have lotsa fun come Saturday. =D
